Role of pathology in HIV and STIs

STIs may remain undiagnosed and untreated if symptoms are not recognised, potentially leading to fertility and serious health issues. STIs also facilitate the transmission of HIV. Pathology testing plays an important role in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of STIs. With increasing prevalence of STIs in Australia, reliance on pathology services will continue to increase in this field.
